April 23rd, 2009 - Subject: Falsely taking credit
In a recent letter to local publications a writer
claimed that the mayor of Middletown and her deputy secured a $610k
grant from the U.S. Dept of Energy. This is an outright lie for they
both stated at a public meeting that they had no knowledge of these
funds until the day that the money was granted. How is it that someone
could formulate such an opinion when the real source of the funding was
published in many of the local papers?
The real story stated that the funds were part of a
$75.5M economic recovery package for energy efficiency projects and
programs. The money is being distributed through the Energy Efficiency
Block Grants program, which Sen. Bob Menendez created with legislation
in 2007. These funds were granted to over 60 towns, 10 counties and the
state itself. These funds were not even applied for in advance.
This writer, as many others, should get their story
straight before fabricating such misleading stories. This is typical of
how the Republican Party has been operating for years. They will take
credit for something that they had no idea about to make people think
that they are doing a service for the public. It is too bad that they
feel the need to hide behind such lies. I hope this author will think
hard when trying to give credit to someone that does not deserve it.
