June 17, 2009 - Subject:  Middletown Needs Budget Committee

Once again Gerry Scharfenberger is railing against Trenton and taxes.  To Gerry Scharfenberger and the rest of the Middletown Township Committee I say: get your own house in order first.  This year we are again over budget.  This time by over 9%.  Over the last 4 years Gerry Scharfenberger and the Township Committee have raised the taxes in Middletown by 25%.

Perhaps, if we had a budget committee as Sean Byrnes has been recommending for the past year, assistance could have been gained by their help. The GOP members seem to feel that they have a handle on budgetary issues and don't see the need for assistance. The town attorney has spoken out saying that our form of government was implemented to get away from having these types of committees, yet this is the main staple of the government of Middletown. The government of Middletown is comprised of many advisory committees to recommend action by the Township Committee.
Perhaps if Gerry Scharfenberger spent as much time working on the Middletown budget as he does blaming Trenton for all of our problems, our taxes wouldn't have gone up 25% in 4 years.
