Patrick Short

Committeeman Patrick Short was elected to the Middletown Township Committee in 2006, the first Democrat in over 20 years.  During his first year (as the only Democrat on the Committee), he withstood continual abuse from the Republican members, who apparently were unable to accept the fact that a Democrat had been elected.  They also chose to ignore any constructive ideas from him.  This, despite the fact that his credentials exceeded those of any Republican on the Committee.  These include:

West Point graduate with a bachelor's degree in applied sciences and engineering.
Three masters degrees:
    -National Security and Strategic Studies
    -Contract Acquisition Management
    -Management and Human Relations
Retired Army Lieutenant Colonel after 22 years of service as a military officer
Taught college-level economics
Certified professional project manager
Senior Manager at Hewlett Packard
Deputy Director, Concerned Civic Associations of Middletown
Vice President, Concerned Citizens of Middletown
Chairman of the "Nick Rowe Memorial" Committee, Union Beach
Board of Directors - West Point Society of New Jersey
Has been recognized by the state legislature for his devotion to improve community effectiveness and quality of life.

The situation changed drastically with the election of a second Democrat.  Although still in the minority, they were now able to bring motions to a vote and also to block irresponsible bonding.

He, his wife, Lucy and two teenage children, Matthew “Tyler” and Erin, have lived in Middletown since 1998
